Week 27 - Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21

Dear Memorial Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back after what I hope was a restful and enjoyable weekend. Thank you to all of the parents who chaperoned our dance on Friday night. We had a good turn out, with more than 200 students in attendance. The kids were great and seemed to enjoy themselves. As always, your involvement makes these events positive and possible. Thank you.

Thank you also to all of the parents who have been delivering food for students who are taking the MEA's. Students greatly appreciated the healthy and tasty treats. I heard one student quip that the free breakfast was the only "perk" of the MEA's that he could think of. Our 8th graders will finish their last MEA test on Monday. The 6th and 7th graders will complete their tests over Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We are all looking forward to our schedule returning to "normal" on Friday.

Congratulations to the boys and girls' indoor track teams on their outstanding efforts in the meet on Saturday at the Portland Expo. The boys' team took first place and the girls' team took 2rd place. Our swim team lost a tough meet to Scarborough on Friday afternoon, but a number of our students swam well enough to record "personal best" times. As a former swim coach, I can tell you that swimming (or running) a "personal best" time in a race is almost as exciting as finishing first. Please encourage your students to keep up the great work!

On Monday night, the School Board passed the budget and the redistricting plan for the District. While there are a few changes that will impact the students in the middle schools, I know that many of our families have younger children who will be impacted by the redistricting plan. If you have questions about the plan, please contact me.

Our Parent/Teacher conferences will be held this Thursday and next Tuesday. If you submitted a conference request slip, please check with your student to see if he/she has received the confirmation notice from his/her teacher. If you have questions about your conference, please contact the Main Office. I look forward to seeing you on these evenings.

In case you had not noticed, I have been including at least one error in every memo each week. I'd like to tell you that it is an intentional kind of "hide and seek" game, but I'm not that clever. Thank you for alerting me when you find a mistake - it helps me improve! This week's memo is the error-free me...I think.
