Week 28 - Monday, March 24 through Friday, March 28
Dear Memorial Parents and Guardians,
What a gorgeous weekend! For those who celebrate Easter, I hope you had a wonderful day and that no one overdid it with the chocolate. I hope that everyone was able to get out and enjoy the sun. Though we are going to have to deal with some frigid temperatures early this week, I am beginning to feel more hopeful that spring will come - eventually.
It was a busy weekend for our students (and, therefore, for our parents & guardians too!). On Friday afternoon, our swimmers participated in an exciting meet against Wescott Junior High at the South Portland Community Center. The South Portland swim team did very well against the Wescott team with dominant performances in the relay events. The swim season wraps up this week with the girls' festival on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Westbrook pool. Our boys' team will compete in their festival meet at the Westbrook pool on Friday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m.
On Saturday morning, our jazz band competed in the Maine State Middle School Jazz Festival, taking 2nd place! The band sounded wonderful and the kids felt like they did a good job. March is "Music in Our Schools" month in South Portland. If you haven't had a chance to come to a musical event this month, you have another chance this Thursday when our chorus will perform at South Portland High School at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday afternoon our students on the track team raced Mahoney and Wescott. It was an exciting meet and our students did a great job. It was truly a team effort with key wins from athletes from different divisions. Memorial won the meet with the highest overall score. The track teams will finish their seasons with the track festival on Saturday at the Portland Expo. The boys' team begins their races at 12:15 p.m. and the girls' team starts their meet at 5:00 p.m.
Our parent/teacher conferences take place this Tuesday from 2:30 until 8:00 p.m. If you submitted a conference request slip, please check with your student to see if he/she has received the confirmation notice from his/her teacher. If you have questions about your conference, please contact the Main Office.
With the exception of the Music Booster announcement omission, I think last week's memo was nearly error-free! I'm going to try to duplicate last week's feat.
