Week 30 - Monday, April through Friday, April 11

Dear Memorial Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back from what I hope was a relaxing weekend. After all of the activities over the last few weeks, this weekend seemed relatively quiet. The third quarter ended on Friday and the report cards will be distributed to students at the end of the day this Friday. Parents and guardians are asked to sign the report card envelope and return it to school. The report card does not need to be returned with the envelope.

Over the weekend, the students in our REACH program participated in "Urban Adventure" at Unum/Provident in South Portland. Our students joined students from across the state for what is called the state's largest student scavenger hunt and the state's largest corporate sleep-over! Our students were outstanding representatives for Memorial and were acknowledged for their hard work. A number of our students were recognized for their leadership and for their hard work. Our spring sports season begins this week with try-outs in a number of different sports. There will be one baseball team for 7th and 8th grade boys, and one softball team for 7th and 8th grade girls. At this time, both sports appear to have enough 7th and 8th grade students to field teams. As a result, 6th grade students will not be able to try out for baseball or softball. While LaCrosse is open to students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, at this time the numbers are high enough that 6th grade participation will be limited. Track is open to students in all grades. Details about practices and try-outs have been announced over the last three weeks and vary from sport to sport. If you have questions, please contact the Main Office (773-5629). In order for students to practice, they must have documentation of a physical on file at the school as well as proof of insurance. Students must also sign and return the Rules and Regulations contract. In addition, students must be in good academic standing. Students must pass all of his/her classes in order to participate. If a student fails one class, a waiver process is available. Student should see Mr. Conant for more information.

The Drama Club will begin meeting again this week. As many of you know, our Drama Club advisor, Ms. Lupien, was not able to finish the year with us because she was hired as a full-time teacher. While we were very happy for her, we knew that there would be big shoes to fill in her absence. Mrs. Porter and Mrs. Watson have stepped up and offered to lead the Drama Club through the end of the year and the final, spring production. Their first meeting will be held on Monday, April 7 at 1:35 in the cafeteria.

Friday will be a busy day as we have our spring pictures and our last school dance. Pictures will be taken in the morning before lunch. Picture forms were sent home last week. Please contact the Main Office if you need another order form. Our last dance of the year is always an exciting event. The dance will be held in the cafeteria from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Students must be in school on the day of the dance in order to be eligible. Parent chaperones are always welcome.

Our latest edition of The Mirror was mailed out on Friday. Please take a few minutes to read over the articles, as there is always a lot of helpful information included in each edition. Have a great week. As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Megan Welter
