Parent Memo Monday, May 11

Week 34 - Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15

Dear Memorial Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to the Memorial Middle School families for your generous outpouring during Teacher Appreciation Week last week. On Wednesday, we closed the Teachers' Room, under the guise of work that needed to take place. Parents descended upon the room, adding a cabinet and counter and other furniture and touches. The room was rearranged to create a sitting area and a professional library/reading area. As teachers came into the room on Thursday morning (for the big "Reveal"), I heard teachers remark on the improvements. Teachers were so impressed with parents' outpouring, commenting that the room was so much more comfortable now. This gorgeous transformation was followed by an amazing luncheon on Friday afternoon. Parents delivered food throughout the day, filling the Teachers' Room with such a fabulous cornucopia, which fed almost 60 people! Almost as exciting were the baskets of fancy soaps and lotions that were delivered to the staff bathrooms. Our teachers were utterly thrilled by such pampering!

Thank you for the generosity you showed not only in your contributions but also in the time you gave to plan and carry out all of the activities that comprised our very special week.

Wednesday is also a big day, as it is our Civil Rights/Wellness Day. Student leaders and other speakers will take our students through a number of sessions focusing on cyberbullying, ways to deal with bullying and name-calling, defining prejudice. In addition, the video that was produced by our students will also be shown and time will be allowed for student discussions. The day will end with time for students to reflect upon what they have learned throughout the day. During our Parent Forum on Thursday, May 14, parents will have an opportunity to hear from students about their experience on Wednesday. Students from our Civil Rights Team will join our Forum to talk about their experience on our Civil Rights Team. Parents are invited to join us for a very informative and powerful experience. We will begin on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Library.

This Wednesday, progress reports will go home with our students at the end of the day. Because we are no longer printing our newsletter, please check our website's Mirror link to read this month's newsletter. There will be information in this month's newsletter about end-of-the-year activities. If you would like a printed copy, please contact the Main Office (773-5629).

On Monday, May 18, we will begin our spring NWEA testing. Students will take 3 tests no more than one test a day, over the 9-day testing period. The students will take the tests through one class period, allowing us to avoid a disruption in the schedule. The NWEA testing will wrap up on Friday, May 29.

Have a great week. As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Megan Welter
