BAND
Memorial Middle School currently has 140 students in band. We pride ourselves on excellence. Students in the program work hard and have won several awards. The Instrumental Music Department offers the following for students in the middle school:
Beginning Lessons - after school and before school
6th grade band - any 6th grader that has been playing an
instrument for a year. During the school day.
7th and 8th grade band- any student who plays at a 7th or 8th grade level. During the school day.
Workshop jazz band - any 6th ,7th or 8th grade student who wants to learn jazz techniques. Oncea week before school or after school.
Competition jazz band - any 6th ,7th or 8th grade band student who wants to work hard to compete in local festivals. During the school day and some before or after school.
There are also festivals at grade level that your child can audition for. Information will be sent out to your child during the school year.
CHORUS
The Memorial Chorus: This group is open to all grade levels year round. This ensemble meets on odd schedule days during the enrichment period, 1:30-2:15pm. The chorus performs three concerts per year, one of which is combined with the high school. There's also the opportunity to carol at the annual Millcreek Tree Lighting, as well as March music festivals in which students can audition or be nominated for.
Our choral ensemble focuses on musicianship, reading music and singing technique.
Chorus is a graded related arts class.
The Memorial Select Chorus: This group is a smaller ensemble that is chosen by audition. Our group meets during and after school. This ensemble also focuses on musicianship, reading skills and vocal technique.
It is the expectation that singers chosen for Select Chorus are enrolled in the Memorial Full Chorus ensemble.
Select Chorus is not graded.
